Youthful Drunk Driving Court

About Our Program

The Youthful Drunk Driving (YDD) program was established in 1994 as a court-ordered alternative sentencing initiative aimed at first-time alcohol or drug-impaired drivers aged 16 to 25. This program emphasizes outcome-oriented interventions designed to positively influence participants’ attitudes and behaviors.

Participation Requirements

Participants gain insight into the potentially devastating human consequences of impaired driving through experiential learning.

This includes visits to:

Upon completing these four visits, participants are required to write a 500-word essay reflecting on their experiences in the YDD program. Additionally, they must obtain an alcohol and drug assessment from a state-certified assessor and adhere to any treatment recommendations provided.

Deferred Sentencing Opportunity

A finding of guilt is withheld for six months, allowing participants the opportunity to complete the YDD program.

If they successfully meet all requirements, they will receive the originally promised deferred sentence, with the possibility of having the charge dismissed and expunged from their record.

At the conclusion of the program, the judge meets with each participant to discuss which aspects of the program were most impactful and whether their perceptions have changed.
